Annotations and Measurements

Learn how to highlight insights, perform measurements and share documents using annotations.

Updated over a week ago

Introduction

Annotations and measurements are available on all operations. They can be used to highlight insights and share them with your co-workers, perform different kinds of measurements or share documents relevant to specific items on site.

How to create an Annotation or Measurement

You can access the annotation and measurement tools through the Annotate / Measure button in the 2D and 3D view modes. Once saved, they'll be stored in the Annotations layer.

There are four types of annotations you can use: polygon, line, point and photo. Each type of annotation enables its own kinds of measurements, depending on the type of data that's available on your operation. You can find more information about each type of annotation further down in this article.

Every annotation requires a description, allows you to configure the colour and add the measurements you need.

Clicking on the measurement will active it. When you save the annotation, the measurements will be visible in the information overview.

The Files section allows you to upload attachments to your annotations. These can be useful to share CAD drawings or IV curve measurements for example.

Most measurements are also available through the share link, but they can not be saved.

Measurement forms:

  • 2D measurements like horizontal length and area are always available. They're basic measurements that are useful in a lot of different cases, from measuring inter-row distances in Solar to measuring roof surfaces in construction.

  • 3D measurements like point to point length, angle and volume are only available when there is a digital surface model (DSM) present on the operation. This is only available in the Survey Essential and Solar Construction products.

  • Thermal measurements like point, max and delta temperature are only available when there is a thermal orthomosaic present on the operation. This is only available in the Solar Inspection Pro and Survey Essential + Thermal products.

Measurement methods

Polygon

Polygon annotations allow you to highlight regions or objects and perform aggregate measurements on them.

The following measurements are always available:

Line

Line annotations allow you to highlight linear features like roads, fences or electric lines and perform measurements on them.

The following measurements are always available:

Point

Point annotations allow you to highlight specific points or very small features.

Photo

Photo annotations allow you to upload photos with spatial information in them. These can be smartphone or drone photos for example. When you upload the photo, the Fuse platform will automatically place them on the correct spot.
