Usage
My location isn't shown
Field Link visualises your location as a blue dot on the map. If that's not visible, there are three possible reasons:
Your location is inaccurate and out of view
Tap the locate self button on the bottom right of the map. If it moves to your location, it was just inaccurate. Continue reading the next question below. If it doesn't do anything or the button is disabled, it's one of the other two causes below.
Field Link doesn't have permission to access your location
Open up your preferred maps application to see if your location does show up there. If it does, Field Link doesn't have permission to access your location. If it doesn't, your device can't determine a location.
Your device can't determine a location
Most devices use a combination of GPS and network information to determine your location, so you can try to enable your cellular connection or improve reception.
Further down on this page, you can find a handy table to troubleshoot location problems.
My location isn't accurate
Field Link visualizes your location as a blue dot on the map. There are two possible reasons for it not to be accurate:
The map layers aren't accurate
Not all data products offer high accuracy map layers. The thermography products for example are typically flown without GCPs or RTK, resulting in a scan that's only accurate up to a few meters. The solar construction and topography products however do use high accuracy positioning and yield accuracies of a few centimeters.
To improve accuracy of you digital twin, you can either upload a correctly positioned design file or perform a high accuracy drone scan.
To validate if this is the cause, you can turn off all layers except the base layer and compare your location in Field Link with your location in your preferred maps application.
The location isn't accurate
Even when the maps are accurate, there might be several reasons why the location isn't accurate.
Firstly, Field Link might not have permission to access your location in high-accuracy. Learn more about location permissions.
Secondly, your device might not be able to determine an accurate location. Most devices use a combination of GPS and network information to determine a location, so try to enable a network connection to improve your location. Depending on where you are, you might not be able to become more than a few meters accurate.
It can help to compare your location in Field Link with your location in your preferred maps application, like Google Maps or Apple Maps. This table helps you identify the most likely causes, depending on your symptoms.
